William G. Stine Sr., 91 years, of West Unity passed away August 31, 2016. William was born on October 28, 1924 in West Unity, the son of the late Franklin Otha and Velma A. (Booream) Stine. After graduating high school, William served in the United States Army during the World War II era. He married Patricia G. Gallup on March 27, 1946, and she preceded him in death on August 6, 2006. William was the owner of Stine’s Market and the co-owner of Stine’s Furniture until his retirement in 1998. He previously worked at Spangler Candy Company, Mehndelson Egg Company, and Short Plumbing and Heating. He was a member of the Stryker United Methodist Church. He also was a member of the West Unity American Legion Post 669. William taught horticulture classes at Four County Career Center. He also served as a Minuteman for the Bi-Centennial Celebration. In his free he enjoyed spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed watching his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids compete in academic and sporting events. William also enjoyed taking care of his garden.
Surviving are his two sons, William G. Stine Jr. of Savannah Georgia, and Lawrence R. Stine of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina; two grandchildren, Joseph W. Stine and his Fiancée Cheri Blosser of West Unity, Ohio and Emily C. (Rustin) Lavinder of Fayette, Ohio; five great-grandchildren, Tatianna (Matt) Storrs, Aubrey Stine, Marishka Stine, Jared Blosser, and Preston Lavinder; one sister, Myrna (Doyle) Wines of Bryan, Ohio; one sister-in-law, Mae Finch of West Unity, Ohio and special friends Kim Stine of West Unity, Ohio and Ben Giddens of Savannah, Georgia. William was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia; grandson, Adam Stine; great-grandson, Montana Blosser; daughter-in-law, Judee Stine; son-in-law, Bill Schroeder; three sisters, Wilma Adams, Joan Martin, and Kay Schad and three brothers, Larry Finch, Burton Finch Sr., and Gerald “Dalton” Finch.
Graveside funeral services will be held September 10, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in Floral Grove Cemetery, West Unity with Pastor Crystal Goodnight officiating. Military graveside rites will be performed by West Unity American Legion Post 669. There will be no visitation Arrangements are under the care of Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 202 North Liberty Street, West Unity.
