Williams County’s polling equipment will soon be in line for an overdue upgrade, at an as of yet undetermined cost to the county. Currently every piece of equipment used by the county, including polling machines, computers memory cards and more, were purchased in 2006. Complicating matters is a recent mandate from the Secretary of State’s Office that has encouraged all counties to keep technology updated to ensure efficiency. According to Bryan Board of Elections officials, the state of Ohio has indicated to this point it will fund 50 percent of the new purchases after Gov. Kasich’s budget cuts took effect, leaving counties like Williams in a difficult spot.
