Wilma Jean Perry, 92 years, of West Unity, passed away Friday, April 1, 2016 at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice Center, Defiance, Ohio. Wilma was born November 24, 1923 in Edgerton, Ohio, the daughter of the late Shirley and Carmen (Lind) Curry. She was a 1941 graduate of Hicksville High School and continued her education graduating from Lutheran School of Nursing in 1946. Wilma married Maurice Albert Perry on April 2, 1947 in Bryan, Ohio and he preceded her in death on December 3, 1994. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home, Dr. Brown’s Office in Stryker, Cameron Hospital, Park View Nursing Home, and Defiance Hospital. Wilma formerly attended Clay United Methodist Church and had been attending West Unity Presbyterian Church. She was previously a member of the Fountain City Squares, Hilltop High School Band Boosters, where she served as the Chairman of the Band Calendar, and three card clubs, which included Euchre and Bridge. In her free time, she enjoyed following Ohio State Buckeye sports teams, playing Wii bowling, Dominos and cards. In Wilma’s younger years she liked camping and square dancing. Wilma truly cherished her time with her family and visiting friends.
Surviving are her five children, Dennis (Diane) Perry of Glendale, Arizona, Sue (Don) Tokarz of Pioneer, Ohio, Kay (Paul) Chester of Arlington, Ohio, Bonnie Perry-Brooks of Uniontown, Ohio, and Lori (Samuel) Sallows of Pittsford, Michigan; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and, one sister, Margie (Lew) Owens of Port St. Lucie, Florida. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Maurice; three brothers, Maurice, Frank, and Gerald Curry.
Visitation for Wilma Jean Perry will be held Tuesday, April 5, 2016, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. in Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 202 North Liberty Street, West Unity. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at 9:30 a.m. in Farmer Cemetery, Farmer, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at the West Unity Presbyterian Church, 201 East North Street, West Unity, Ohio, at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, with Reverend Tom Steensma officiating.
