Mayor Mike McCann told city council Tuesday he wants a new roundabout at a Defiance intersection, and the state would pay for nearly all of it. He wants to apply for a grant to install a traffic signal or build a roundabout at Jefferson Avenue and Palmer Drive in 2019. The traffic control effort coincides with construction of the new Defiance High School, where a roundabout also will be built. According to McCann, the state grant — if awarded — would cover 95 percent of the construction cost with the city picking up 5 percent. However, the city would have to pay for engineering and design work.
