Montpelier student awarded for public service

A fifth grader at Montpelier Middle School has been honored for her volunteering efforts. 11-year-old Jade Scott has been named as one of the top runners-up in the 2016 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards in Ohio. Scott founded her school’s chapter of Help Us Give Shoes, which is otherwise known as HUGS, in 2014. The program has collected over 3,000 pairs of shoes and over $1,200 through shoe drives and sponsors, and now she’s also collecting snow boots. Scott received an engraved bronze Distinguished Finalist medallion.
