Defiance man takes Alford plea in child sex case

The case of a 49-year-old man charged with two counts of child sex abuse has ended when the Defiance man was sentenced on Friday.
Scott Bergman was sentenced to six months on the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio and placed on intensive supervised probation for four years for two counts of gross sexual imposition.
Bergman was ordered to have no contact with the victim, the family or female juveniles without permission. Plus, he’ll register as a Tier 2 sex offender.
In the deal, the two counts of rape were dismissed as part of the man’s Alford guilty plea. That means he maintains his innocence but acknowledges there’s enough for a jury to find him guilty.
The court record showed the victim was under the age of 12.
