The work has begun on the Defiance County Courthouse exterior. Midwest Contracting is repairing the roof, tuckpointing the exterior brick and adding a clock tower on the west end of the courthouse. That tower will be nearly 90 feet high and is expected to be installed in August. According to a county commissioner, the tower will be constructed then lifted with a crane and put in place.
Inside, the renovations are nearly complete, according to the Crescent News. The first floor work is done, the second floor is being completed now. The third floor work is expected to coincide with the clock tower installation and may have to work around that. The commissioner said the common pleas court may have to be temporarily moved in late summer while the crews work on the tower.
