OHP warns about distracted driving dangers

April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month and the Defiance post of the Ohio Highway Patrol is reminding drivers to keep their eyes and focus on the roadway while driving.
OHP says that when driving 55, sending or receiving a text message takes a driver’s eyes off the road for an average of 4.6 seconds, the equivalent of driving the length of an entire football field. Last year, 39 fatal crashes occurred due to distracted driving.
A reminder about Ohio law: All cellphone usage for drivers under 18 is prohibited. And texting while driving is illegal for all drivers is a secondary offense.
