Regionalization of police, sheriff’s department dropped

The study to regionalize the Defiance Police Department is no longer being explored. That’s the word from Defiance Mayor Mike McCann’s administration and city police. They’ve come to an agreement and have ended talk of contracting with the county sheriff’s office for police services. McCann said that following the announcement to study the merger of the sheriff’s department and city police, a number of deficiencies within the department and the procedures of the civil service commission have been addressed. He said “more work remains, and they are optimistic that these negotiations will bring about the type of positive change needed to improve the department’s structure and help us continue to provide quality law enforcement to the citizens of Defiance.”
