Hundreds of thousands of Ohioans living on less than $2 a day

Last week at a conference held by the Coalition on Homelessness and Housing in Ohio, one of the most sobering statistics emerged. About 190,000 Ohio adults are living on incomes of $2 a day or less. According to the group, about 800,000 Ohioans are living in “deep poverty” which is about $10,000 a year for a family of three. Part of the problem they said is the economy’s shift from middle-class manufacturing jobs to low-wage service jobs and social services can’t keep up.
