Charlotte Cox, 97

Charlotte Crossett Staples Cox, 97, died peacefully on Sunday, June 9, 2013, at The Inn at Fountain Park in Bryan where she had been a resident in the memory unit since July 2011. Descended from New Englanders, Charlotte was born on November 3, 1915, in West Trenton, New Jersey, to Fred and Mary Crossett Staples. After the death of her mother when Charlotte was still in her teens, she kept house for her father and brother. She was a graduate of Rider College, now Rider University, and served as the assistant postmistress of West Trenton, New Jersey. She married John R. Cox on March 23, 1940 in Langhorne, Pennsylvania. They lived in Trenton, New Jersey, and Austinburg, Ohio, prior to moving to Bryan in 1968. She was an energetic and dedicated wife and mother of three children, demonstrating extraordinary management skills with modest means. She was a wonderful cook and kept house artfully with seeming effortlessness. She loved to be neighborly and enjoyed exercising her gift for showing kindness. She had ready sympathy for others’ hardships and a heart for service. She was one of the first drivers for Head Start and for Meals on Wheels in Bryan. She relished life and loved to laugh. She loved to be outdoors gardening and arranging her flowers. Charlotte was a founding member of the Austinburg Garden Club and served as its first president. She always joked that her “middle name was Go!” and especially enjoyed traveling with her husband both in the US and abroad to England, Spain and Singapore to visit children and grandchildren. Until very recently she enjoyed good health and a robust constitution. Charlotte was preceded in death, in 2011, by John, her beloved husband of 71 years, and in 1992 by her devoted brother, Marcus M. Staples.

She is survived by children Marcus (Joan) Cox, of Saint Paul, Michael (Katherine) Cox, of Bryan, and Mary Lynn (Jorge Bosso) Cox of Madrid, Spain; grandchildren Camilo Bosso of Madrid, Charles Cox of Minneapolis, Giovanni Bosso of Madrid, Jennifer Cox of Los Angeles, Jessica (Kamrooz Aram) Cox of New York City, Peter Cox of Johannesburg, South Africa, and Leandro Bosso of Madrid; and sixteen nieces and nephews.

The family is grateful to the nursing staff of the memory unit at Fountain Park for the loving care they provided to Charlotte for almost two years. The family is also grateful to the nurses and staff of the former CHWC Hospice Care and the hospice nurses and staff of the Community Health Professionals of Williams and Fulton Counties.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Krill Funeral Service in Bryan. In accordance with Charlotte’s wishes, a family service and internment will take place at a future date at Ewing Church Cemetery, Ewing Township, New Jersey.

Memorials may be given in Charlotte’s name to the Community Health Professionals of Williams and Fulton Counties.
