New bill to create Ohio Wind Corridor

Here in Ohio, lawmakers are considering a measure that would create what they’re calling an Ohio Wind Corridor encompassing much of the northwestern part of the Buckeye State that could make investing in wind energy a good investment with a reasonable return. The regulations now make new large-scale wind farms impractical.
The 2014 restrictions require new wind turbines to be located at least 1300 feet from the nearest property line. One lawmaker said under those new rules, there would only be 12 of the current 152 turbines operating.
The new bill allows the Ohio Power Siting Board to develop alternative minimum setback restrictions within the northwest wind corridor that could be geographic or project specific.
