Petition to change roads back to two-way makes it to board of elections

A group of Defiance residents who want to change two streets from one way to two way traffic has filed a petition with the County Board of Elections. It made it on time, but the city has voiced objections to the petition, saying that the petition language is binding on future councils and are usually reserved for the city charter. The City’s traffic commission changed Fort Street and part of Washington Avenue to only one way traffic. The city finance director says the petition is the wrong place to make the change, and that place, in fact, is a charter amendment. It’s unclear if the petition will be on the November ballot.
