Petition seeking voter passage of an ordinance restoring two-way traffic to two Defiance streets

Defiance County’s board of elections has certified a petition seeking voter passage of an ordinance restoring two-way traffic to two Defiance streets. The board met Tuesday afternoon and voted unanimously to put the ordinance on the Nov. 8 ballot. If passed, it would restore two-way traffic on Fort Street and on Washington Avenue, between Fort Street and Second Street, and stipulate that the designation could only be changed by the electorate. That would reverse a decision made by the city traffic commission in December 2014 establishing one-way traffic for eastbound motorists on Fort Street and southbound vehicles on Washington, between Fort and Second streets. The county’s board of elections received the petitions earlier this month and determined that 521 of the 605 signatures received on petitions circulated by the group are valid. Some 430 signatures were needed to make the ballot.
