Williams County Fair Board still short of funds for new goat barn

The Williams County Fair Board is proceeding with final design and bidding of a new $100,000 goat barn on the fairgrounds, despite concerns there’s not enough money to complete the job. By a unanimous vote — with one abstention — fair board members on Thursday agreed to move forward with the project, which would demolish the old goat barn and replace it with a new 40-by-96-foot barn. Initial plans called for the project to be bid in March and completed by June, in time for this year’s fair, Sept. 9-16. The fair board has raised about $23,500 to date, including about $7,000 from the spring raffle and dinner earlier this month, and a recent donation of $1,500 from the Williams County Dairy Association. Brian Wieland, who secured the state grant and is overseeing the project, said he’s concerned the board is still $25,000 short.
