Indiana Toll Road rates spike

More than a decade ago, the deal to privatize the Indiana Toll Road was struck Now it’s judgement day. Commuters who were shielded from rate increases during that decade began paying the going rate yesterday…an increase of 126 percent. The increase is just the first of what will likely be many more. The annual increase in rates takes effect July 1st. While the deal protected passenger vehicles and motorcycles from the annual increases, it also provided cover for lawmakers who approved the deal by kicking those rate hikes down the road several elections. The Toll Road website does not currently list the new rates. It says a new rate calculator is coming soon.
