Runners at the second annual Run for your Heart 5K in Bryan were reminded of the importance of exercise on Saturday morning at Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers, where the run was held.
Dr. Jodi Tinkel, a cardiologist at CHWC, said the 5K acted as something of a cap to a 10-week fitness program to motivate its employees to exercise. The American Heart Association recommends at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity at least 5 days per week for overall cardiovascular health, or at least 25 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity at least 3 days per week, or a combination of moderate- and vigorous-intensity aerobic activity. Moderate- to high-intensity muscle-strengthening activity is recommended at least 2 days per week for additional health benefits.
