No final decision was reached Monday night regarding the possible future of the Hicksville Community Service Center.
The meeting, which was held on Monday evening in Community Memorial Hospital and attracted over 30 community leaders and concerned citizens, including a number of HCSC board members.
The Center was established in 1986 with the goal of improving the quality of life of financially challenged individuals and families by offering them a local facility to meet with various agencies that deliver needed assistance. Many do not have transportation to obtain assistance in locations elsewhere.
United Way, which has been the center’s main funding source, has made significant funding cuts to the organization. In the past, United Way has provided about 75 percent of the center’s total revenue.
