In West Unity, the first reading to raise water and sewer rates was held by village council. Officials say the increase is necessary to provide for fiscally sustainable water systems within the village. Under the proposal, the base charge for sewer service for customers within the village would increase from $6 to $10 per month. If approved after three readings, the new rates would go into effect in January.
