Bryan brings in the Christmas season with its annual parade and lighting of the downtown Christmas lights. Flipping the switch was Mayor, Doug Johnson, who was chosen as the Elf of Light this year, bringing back the tradition after a one-year hiatus. Johnson chose not to seek re-election, making 2017 his 16th and final year as mayor.
