Charles “Earl” Walker, 89, of Montpelier, passed away on Monday, March 19, 2018 at Evergreen Manor Nursing Home in Montpelier. He was born on June 16, 1928 in Montpelier to Clifford and Grace (Foust) Walker. Earl graduated from Montpelier High School in 1947. On July 5, 1947 he married Illega M. King in Paulding and she preceded him in death in December of 2014.
Earl retired from Hause Machine in Montpelier as an engineer in 1991. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Montpelier and the Montpelier Moose. Earl also served on the Board of Directors of Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers and served on the Board of Public Affairs in Montpelier.
He is survived by his daughter, Denise “Niece” L. Brown of Montpelier; daughter-in-law, Jeannine Walker of Hamilton Lake, IN; three grandchildren, John C. Henricks of Montpelier, Christopher (Kathy) Walker of Bryan and Sabrina (Brad) Fox of Edgewater, MD; four great grandchildren, Noelle and Raya Henricks, Bowen Walker and Coralynn Fox; one brother, Dale Walker of Bryan; and several nieces and nephews.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents, wife Illega M. Walker, son Dennis L. Walker, son-in-law Tom L. Brown and one brother Olin Walker.
A time to receive friends will be held on Friday, March 23, 2018 from 4-8 p.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home on Main Street in Montpelier. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Montpelier with Pastor Paul Gruetter to officiate. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Montpelier. Donations may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church or to the donor’s choice.
