Carolyn Sue (Boyers) Smith, 78

Carolyn Sue (Boyers) Smith, age 78, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at her home in Bristol Village, Waverly, Ohio surrounded by her loving family. She struggled with Parkinson’s and unexplained weight loss during the last four years. She was born on July 2, 1939 in Wauseon, Ohio to Howard and Genevieve (Croninger) Boyers. Carolyn graduated from Wauseon High School in 1957 and after a four year courtship, married Glen Smith on June 14, 1959 at First Christian Church of Wauseon. She graduated from Eastern Michigan University in 1961 with a degree in Home Economics prior to moving to Chillicothe, Ohio in 1965, where she lived for 50 years.

Together Carolyn and Glen had four children, Beth Ann (Roy) Speer, Matthew (Joy) Smith, Michael (Diana) Smith and Jennifer (Jim) Danzi, ten grandchildren, Nathan(Kim), Jared, Taylor, Sydney, Annie (John), Zach, Caroline, John, David, Kevin, and four great-grandchildren, Alexis, Mikayla, Weston and Mia. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Roger. In addition to those family members mentioned previously, Carolyn is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, her two brothers, DeAlton (Sharry) Boyers and Paul (Pam) Boyers, and fondly remembered by extended family and friends.

Carolyn helped set up the Ross County WIC program and served as its first Director for nineteen years. She was also actively involved in several community service programs including Junior Civic League and PEO Sisterhood. Carolyn was a long time member of First Christian Church where she served in several leadership roles. Her many hobbies included sewing, quilting, gardening and travel.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 21, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Haller Funeral Home, 1661 Western Avenue, Chillicothe. A celebration of Carolyn’s life will also be held at Haller Funeral Home, on Thursday, March 22, at 10:00 a.m. Graveside services will be conducted in early April at Oak Grove Cemetery in Morenci, Michigan, followed by a memorial service at First Christian Church in Wauseon, Ohio.
