Lawrence “Larry” E. Sundberg, 77 of Nettle Lake and formerly of Sylvania, Ohio passed peacefully at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on February 1, 1941 in Brockton, Massachusetts to Lawrence E. and Betsy M. (McDonald) Sundberg. Larry was a graduate of Sunnyside High School in Tucson, Arizona and soon after entered into the US Navy. He was an active duty service member from 1960-1969 and then was in the reserves until 1984 as a chief petty officer. On March 19, 1983 he married Janis A. Curnow in Toledo, Ohio.
On December 31, 1999 Larry retired as the Director of Maintenance and Operations at the Toledo Express Airport. Also, at one time he was a Police Officer with the Toledo/Lucas County Port Authority and was active with the Boy Scouts of America High Adventure Crew #457. Larry was a member of the Maumee Fraternal Order of Police.
Larry and Janis enjoyed spending their winters in Tucson from September to April and since 2015 have found fulfillment in living at Nettle Lake full time since 2015.
Larry is survived by his wife Janis of 35 years, three children Christine (John) Taylor of Dundee, Michigan, Robert Sundberg of Toledo, and Benjamin Sundberg of Bryan; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; two sisters Faith (Duncan) Beal of Tucson, Sandy Unfred of Lawrence, Kansas; a brother Fred (Carol) Sundberg of Land O’Lakes, Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 11, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home on Main Street in Montpelier. A time to receive friends will be held prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Military honors will be presented by the Montpelier Veterans. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to CHP Hospice or the Toledo Area Counsel of Boy Scouts.
