DOG RESCUED

The Bryan Times this morning is reporting a story about a dog rescue over the weekend.

Dixie, an 11-year-old Lab-shepherd mix, along with another dog, ended up at the Rails to Trails footbridge that crosses Beaver Creek.

Dixie apparently wandered, fell, or was knocked down the embankment and became trapped among metal girders beneath the footbridge.

Fortunately for Dixie, Ivan Phillips and his dogs were taking their usual afternoon walk along the trail Sunday.

Phillips said he evaluated the situation to see if he could get the dog out but realized she was 4 or 5 feet below ground level — and another 35 feet above the creek.

He went home and contacted the sheriff’s office, who in turn contacted Lisa Stalter, president of the Williams County Humane Society. She in turn, called fire and rescue personnel, who were there for hours, before the dog was finally freed.

Rescuers say it was a miracle the dog didn’t fall over the 35-foot drop-off.
