UNITED WAY HOLDS QUARTERLY HUNGER SUMMIT

The United Way held their quarterly Hunger Summit Thursday afternoon and all who attended agreed.. Demand for services is up. Every food pantry in Williams county reported an increased number of first-time clients since August.

According to those involved, it’s not that people can’t afford food, they just can’t afford food along with everything else.

Gas and utilities are going up and people are worried about changes and increased costs associated with the new health insurance laws.

Food pantry folks say many of those they help are retirees.

In Bryan, they report that the biggest increase this year has come from unemployed, single men.
