The project to remove the asbestos inside the county courthouse is set to begin March 6. Officials say…asbestos has been confirmed within the walls and ceilings of the courthouse’s fourth floor, where commissioners had held their weekly meetings, and where state auditors, county appraisers and the county Maintenance Manager had offices. The commissioners are now meeting in the county East Annex office building on E. High St., in Bryan. Records from the state auditors and county appraisers offices have been scanned and relocated to the courthouse basement. The estimated total asbestos remediation project cost is $289,975, and is expected to be complete in April, prior to the beginning of the next courthouse project…replacing or restoring all 175 windows in the four-story courthouse. That work is expected to begin in June, with an estimated cost of $1.8 million dollars.
