Gene C. Rettig, 81, of Bryan, Ohio passed away unexpectedly, Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at his home. Gene was born May 26, 1942, in Holgate, Ohio, son of the late Howard and Marvel (Engel) Rettig. He was a 1960 graduate of Holgate High School and continued his education at Stautzenberger School of Engineering, where he obtained an associate degree. Gene married Sue E. (McCage) Martin on February 7, 1981, in Montpelier, Ohio and she survives. He worked as a mechanical engineer at Automatic Feed Company, Napoleon, for over 30 years, until his retirement in 2001. Along with his wife Sue, Gene previously attended First Baptist Church, Stryker. Gene was a master woodworker, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, target, and skeet shooting. He was a skilled musician and enjoyed playing steel guitar.
Surviving is his loving wife, Sue Rettig of Bryan, Ohio; nine children, Sherri Hanna of Jackson, Michigan, Holli Kemarly of Liberty, Kentucky, Kelli (Shawn) Gross of Monclova, Ohio, Laurel (Dewayne) Clark of West Unity, Ohio, Kristin (Jason) Bodle of Springfield, Missouri, Paul Martin of Maumee, Ohio, Joseph (Terri) Martin of Pioneer, Ohio, Kerre (Paul) Bogard of Ooltewah, Tennessee, and Jonathan (Rebecca) Martin of Claremont, Florida; 22 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren. Gene was preceded in death by his parents; son, Mark Rettig; granddaughter, Venessa Kemarly.
Visitation for Gene will be held Friday, April 19, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 206 North Lynn Street, Bryan. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 20, 2024, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Sean Ingram officiating. Interment will follow at Floral Grove Cemetery, Pioneer.
