Donald Gooding “Don” Mason Jr. 78 of Angola passed away Monday, November 4, 2024, at Parkview DeKalb Hospital, under the care of Hospice, with his family at his side. Don was born January 28, 1946, in Dade County, Florida, the son of the late Donald Gooding and Katherine (Ryan) Mason, Sr, M.D. He was a 1964 graduate of Angola High School. He continued his education at Kalamazoo College. He then attended Indiana University, Bloomington and Indiana University Purdue University, Indianapolis, where he attained his bachelor’s degree. He continued his education taking courses at Trine University over the years. Don began his career as a draftsman for John Doyle and Associates. He then worked for the Indiana Department of Transportation, Fort Wayne Division from 1989 – 2005. He transferred to the Steuben County Surveyors Office and finished his working career as a Land Surveyor and Civil Engineer, retiring in 2020. He was a member of the Angola Congregational Church where he sang in the church choir. Don enjoyed singing, was an avid reader and enjoyed expanding his mind working mathematical puzzles.
Surviving is his former spouse, Jill Mason of Hamilton; two sons, Daniel (Kristy) Mason of Angola and John Mason, also of Angola; two grandchildren, Owen Mason, and Olivia Mason; three brothers, Greg Mason, Lee Mason, and Brian (Kelly Brock) Mason; one sister, Andrea (Don) Dieterly. He was preceded in death by his parents.
There will be no visitation or services at this time. Arrangements are under the care of Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 3985 East Church Street, Hamilton, Indiana.
