Joyce J. Drayer, 93

Joyce J. Drayer, 93, of Harlan, Indiana, passed away Thursday, November 7, 2024, at The Cedars, Leo, Indiana. Joyce was born on April 17, 1931, in Maples, Indiana, daughter of the late Homer and Hazel (Richards) Witwer. She was a 1949 graduate of Hoagland High School. She married David A. Drayer on October 15, 1950, and he preceded her in death on August 9, 2018. Joyce primarily worked as a homemaker, raising her children, and supporting the needs of her family. Before staying home and tending to her family, she worked at Parrott Meat Packing and then at Farnsworth Manufacturing – which made the very first television.  After raising her children, Joyce worked at Rhinehart’s Finishing, Grabill Cabinet Company and then as a teacher’s aide at East Allen Schools. She was a dedicated member of North Scipio Christian Church. where she sang in the church choir. In her free time, she enjoyed gardening, camping, fishing, crocheting, and reading. What she truly treasured was spending time with her family and friends.

Surviving are five children, Dawn (John) Patterson of Woodburn, Indiana, Rick (Georgiann) Drayer of Woodburn, Indiana, Sharon (Chris) Miller of Harlan, Indiana, Vicki (Daniel) Downend of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Janeen (Michael) Perriguey of Morral, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, David, and two brothers, Homer, and Richard Witwer.

Visitation for Joyce J. Drayer will be held Tuesday, November 12, 2024, from 2:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 706 North Main Street, Hicksville, Ohio. Visitation will continue Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at North Scipio Christian Church from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. where Funeral services for Joyce will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at North Scipio Christian Church with Pastor Ken Herb officiating. Interment will follow in Scipio Cemetery, Harlan.
