Nancy Jane Shock, 82

Nancy Jane Shock, 82, of Hicksville, Ohio, passed away Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Vancrest of Hicksville, surrounded by her loving family.  Nancy was born October 26, 1942, in Hyattsville, Maryland, daughter of the late Harold and Martha (Lay) Hissong.  As a young lady while visiting friends in Defiance, she met Jack Shock, and on January 15, 1961, they were united in marriage.  Nancy worked as a dispatcher for the Hicksville Police Department until they centralized with Defiance County.  She also worked for Bob Volkert’s Potato Farm, Derek’s Steakhouse and at Sears & Roebuck.  Nancy was a member of the Hicksville First Church of Christ and was active with the Card Club in both Hicksville and Defiance.  Between raising their children and supporting Jack as he coached their youth sports teams, Nancy was always at the ballpark.  Many children in the community would often refer to Nancy as their second mom.  As the family grew, her focus switched to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, watching them in their sporting events and academic endeavors.

Surviving is her husband, Jack of Hicksville; three sons, Marty (Wanda Parker) Shock of Fort Wayne, Indiana; Todd “Moose” (Kay) Shock of Hicksville, and Tim (Chris) Shock of Hicksville; daughter-in-law, Charlotte Shock of Hicksville; seven grandchildren, Marissa (Trent) Schinnerer, McKinzie (Nick) Engle, Nicole (Nick) Yoder, Kailey (Jesse) Reid, Kasadi Shock, Gunner (Danielle) Shock and Abbye (Garrett) Franz; and 12 great-grandchildren (with two more on the way), Brelynn, Brayden, Rylee, Tesslyn, Mason, Carter, Paxton, Maddox, Brixton, Emrie, Emmitt and Lily.  Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Jane Shock; son, Steve “Sherm” Shock; sister, Sally Salisbury; and brother, Jerry Hissong.
