Illa J. Gebhart, 81, of Sherwood, Ohio passed away Thursday, December 19, 2024, at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice Center, Defiance, Ohio with her children by her side. Illa was born July 5, 1943, in Defiance, Ohio, daughter of the late Leonard and Aletha (Stretker) Feeney. She married Larry Gebhart on September 28, 1963, and they were married for nearly 58 years until Larry’s passing on September 21, 2021. Illa was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She always took care of her family and supported them in all their activities. Illa was known by many for being a bartender at the Bryan Eagles where she served beverages for 25 years. Illa was a member of Sherwood Methodist Church, Defiance Moose Lodge 2094, and Bryan Eagles Aerie 2233. In her free time, Illa enjoyed completing puzzle books, reading, and wintering in Palmetto, Florida. Above all, she cherished spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Surviving are her three children, Ronnie Gebhart of Sherwood, Ohio; Connie (Victor) Dunson of Sherwood, Ohio; Bonnie Carpenter of Sherwood, Ohio; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three siblings, Patricia Beauprez of Defiance, Ohio, Karen Dotterer of Defiance, Ohio, and Thomas (Kay) Feeney of Findlay, Ohio. Illa was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Larry Gebhart; brother, Leonard Feeney, Jr; sister, Sharon Wilcox.
To honor Illa’s wishes she will be cremated and no services held. Arrangements are in care of Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 230 E. Elm Street, Sherwood, Ohio.
