Serious injury crash Saturday in Van Wert County.

On Saturday, January 11th, at approximately 12:09PM, Troopers from the Van Wert
Post responded to a report of a two-vehicle, injury crash at the intersection of U.S. 224
and Van Wert Decatur Road in Pleasant Township in Van Wert County.
A 2017 Chevrolet Silverado being operated by Adam J. Schulte, age 46, of Kettering,
Ohio, was westbound on U.S. 224. Marcus D. Mudd, age 53, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, was
operating a 2023 Mack box truck, traveling eastbound on U.S. 224. Mr. Schulte began to
make a left turn from U.S. 224 onto Van Wert Decatur Road, pulling into the path of Mr.
Mudd’s vehicle. The Mack struck the Chevrolet, pushing the Chevrolet off the north side
of U.S. 224. Mr. Mudd was transported by Ohio Health – Van Wert by EMS for minor
injuries. Mr. Schulte was flow from the scene by Samaritan Air Ambulance to Parkview in
Fort Wayne for treatment of serious injuries.

This crash remains under investigation. The Ohio State Highway Patrol reminds drivers to
always wear a properly adjusted seatbelt and to never drive distracted.
