State Patrol releases 4th of July weekend traffic crash statistics.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol has released its Fourth of July traffic crash statistics following the holiday weekend. According to OSHP, ten people died in ten separate traffic crashes between Thursday, July 3, and Sunday, July 6. This marks a significant decrease from the previous year’s reporting period. Authorities reported that in seven of the fatalities where safety belts were available, six individuals were not wearing their safety belts. OSHP reminded drivers that while Ohio’s safety belt law remains a secondary violation, troopers continued to have zero tolerance during the holiday reporting period. Throughout the timeframe, troopers issued 2,286 safety belt and child safety seat citations. Additionally, OSHP said troopers made 404 arrests for impaired driving, 73 of which were for drug-related charges.
