Telephone scam in Monroe County.

A scammer falsely claiming to be a Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputy is threatening to arrest people over the phone and demanding payment through bitcoin. The sheriff’s office sent out a press release on Friday warning about the telephone scam, which is targeting people in the community. According to the release, the sheriff’s office received a report on Friday that a scammer “claimed he was ‘Deputy Corey Jacobs’, then proceeded to say that he/she either has warrants for their arrest, has failed to appear for jury duty, or has missed appearing in court.”
