The Ohio State Highway Patrol will officially dedicate a portion of U.S. Route 33 in Auglaize County to
Lieutenant James A. Kirkendall, who was killed in the line of duty more than 55 years ago. Relatives of
Lieutenant Kirkendall are expected to be in attendance.
Lieutenant Kirkendall was killed in a crash involving two trucks on U.S. Route 33, just west of St. Johns
in Auglaize County, on October 28, 1970. At the time of his death, he served as the commander of the
Van Wert Post.
