The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office says 52 people were arrested, and 72 chickens were rescued Sunday morning during an investigation into suspicious activity on Fulton County Road N when officers discovered a cock fighting ring there.
Deputies found 72 chickens, all roosters, all with razor-sharp spurs tied to their feet.
Of the 52 people charged, 26 are from Indiana and 17 from Michigan. The other nine were Ohio residents from Delta, Swanton, Napoleon, Oakwood, Continental, Holland, Lyons and Weston.
One of the roosters was so seriously injured from a fight just before deputies arrived and broke it up, that it will likely have to be euthanized. The others are being held until they can be released through the local humane societies.
