Swanton Man Critical Following Crash

A violent two vehicle crash Monday afternoon has left a Swanton man in critical condition.

The Ohio Highway Patrol reports that 34 year old Derek Molina was driving east on Frankfort Road just before 6 Monday evening, as 35 year old Corrie Nijakowski, also of Swanton, was driving north on Ohio 295.

Police say Molina’s vehicle slammed into Nijakowski’s vehicle at the intersection. Molina, who police say was not wearing a seatbelt, was thrown from his vehicle.

He was flown to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, where as of yesterday afternoon, police report he was still listed in critical condition.

Nijakowski, who was properly restrained, was taken by ambulance to St. Luke’s Hospital, where she was treated and released.

The crash is still under investigation by the Highway Patrol today.
