Orchard Hills Doing Fine Now

What started out as an appar­ent big loss to the com­mu­nity, has instead, turned into some­thing very pos­i­tive.

The trans­for­ma­tion of the for­mer Orchard Hills Coun­try Club is pretty much com­plete. A lit­tle more than a year ago, the for­mer pri­vate course re-opened as a pub­lic course, and the oper­a­tors say that this sum­mer… the first as a pub­lic course, went quite well so far.

The Bryan Times says that leagues have been a dri­ving force in the re-birth of the course.

On Wednes­day evenings, the Bryan Eagles league and the Pio­neer Forge league, each play nine holes, bring­ing about 70 golfers to the course every Wednes­day.

There are other leagues too, includ­ing a members-only league and a women’s league.

Oper­a­tors say the club­house is being rented for spe­cial events, such as wed­dings, and new mem­ber­ships are con­tin­u­ing to come in.

Orchard Hills first opened in 1926. Under the new pub­lic pol­icy, you can play 18 holes for just $32, but you still must adhere to the dress code… that means for men, a col­lared shirt and khaki pants… no jeans!
