Orchard Hills Doing Fine Now

What started out as an apparent big loss to the community, has instead, turned into something very positive.

The transformation of the former Orchard Hills Country Club is pretty much complete. A little more than a year ago, the former private course re-opened as a public course, and the operators say that this summer… the first as a public course, went quite well so far.

The Bryan Times says that leagues have been a driving force in the re-birth of the course.

On Wednesday evenings, the Bryan Eagles league and the Pioneer Forge league, each play nine holes, bringing about 70 golfers to the course every Wednesday.

There are other leagues too, including a members-only league and a women’s league.

Operators say the clubhouse is being rented for special events, such as weddings, and new memberships are continuing to come in.

Orchard Hills first opened in 1926. Under the new public policy, you can play 18 holes for just $32, but you still must adhere to the dress code… that means for men, a collared shirt and khaki pants… no jeans!
