William Alford Dillard, age 88, of Delta passed away Thursday September 4, 2014 at Swanton Valley Healthcare. Prior to his retirement he had been employed by the Chessie System Railroad, formerly known as the C&O and CSX Railroad.
Mr. Dillard was born on August 6, 1926 in Old Hickory, TN. He was the son of the late David E. and Dovie (Adams) (Dyer) Dillard, Sr.
On November 28, 1945 he married Goldie Crabtree and they have been married for over 68 years.
William enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, bowling, model trains and collecting train memorabilia.
William is survived by his wife Goldie Dillard, daughters; Barbara (Mike) McCowan, Beverly (Larry) Pettengill, grandchildren; Kellie Longdon, Marcee (Rob) Brazier, and Michael (Denise) Pettengill. Also surviving are great-grandchildren; Aaron, Megan, and Emily Brazier, Ian, Kyle, and Kieran Longdon, Alex Nyers and honorary great-grandaughter Lys Braam from Germany. In addition, William also has many nieces and nephews that will remember him dearly. Preceding him in death besides his parents was brother, David E. Dillard and infant son William A. Dillard, Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday September 9, 2014 at Crossroads Evangelical Church, 845 E. Leggett Street in Wauseon Ohio, with Pastor Matt Boyers officiating. Visitation will be held at Crossroads Church on Monday from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00pm. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). Online condolences may be made to the family at www.GrisierFH.com.
