Jewell Township and South Richland firefighters were called to a woods and grass fire north of Defiance, at 8:44 a.m. Monday. The Crescent News reports that the fire spread from a burn barrel due to high winds at the residence of Harold Steffel. The National Weather Service reported that the wind speed at the time of the fire was 15 mph.
