Local county courts are now bound by last week’s Supreme Court ruling on same sex marriage, however they may not be able to accommodate same-sex marriage license requests right away. For now, the Ohio Probate Judges’ Association has a committee that hastily began to review the Supreme Court’s decision before making a recommendation to the local courts on how they should proceed. The court, as of Friday, was hoping to receive that recommendation by sometime today. The Crescent News reports that Henry County Judge John Collier said he has received a copy of a license application that is gender neutral from the Probate Judges’ Association and that “he doesn’t see any problems with it.” Paulding County Probate Judge John DeMuth said the court’s paperwork for licenses currently contains wording that refers to ‘husband’ and ‘wife.’ He said they currently do not have an application with alternate wording.
