A Putnam County woman is in some serious trouble after being accused of lying to the FCIC. 55 year old Sharon Piper is charged with making a materially false statement to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.
Piper was the head teller for the Union Bank Co. at its Columbus Grove branch. In 2010, investigators say she falsely stated the vault at the bank was in balance, when she knew it was actually short by $145,000. If convicted, Piper could be looking at substantial time in federal prison. The Federal Bureau of Investigation is investigating, and the case is being prosecuted by assistant U.S. attorney Gene Crawford.
