Another Case Of West Nile Virus Reported In Williams County

Now, another case of West Nile virus has been reported in Williams County. The Williams County Health Depart­ment said on Mon­day, that the lat­est case now makes nine con­firmed cases of West Nile Virus in Ohio so far this year. Yesterday’s report, accord­ing to the Bryan Times, comes fol­low­ing the case of a 91-year-old man from Williams County who con­tracted West Nile Virus, and died Aug. 12. The man’s name has not been pub­licly released. The health depart­ment reminds all county res­i­dents of the need to be vig­i­lant and take steps to min­i­mize all unnec­es­sary stand­ing water and other mos­quito nest­ing areas. Ohio reported 11 human cases of West Nile Virus in 2014, 24 in 2013, and 122 in 2012. On a pos­i­tive note, most peo­ple who become infected with West Nile virus do not have any symp­toms. Only about one in five develop a fever with other symp­toms such as headache, body aches, joint pains, vom­it­ing, diar­rhea or rash. Less than one per­cent develop encephali­tis or menin­gi­tis. Peo­ple over 60 years of age are at the great­est risk.
