More deer than last year checked on opening day

Despite com­plaints from hunters that the num­ber of deer appears down this year, The Ohio Depart­ment of Nat­ural Resources put out some num­bers yes­ter­day that showed more deer were checked in area coun­ties so far this year than last. On open­ing day, hunters checked 22,256 white-tailed deer. The deer-gun sea­son is open through Sun­day, then two addi­tional days in Decem­ber are slated for the 28th and 29th.
