WILLIAMS COUNTY TO PAVE RUNWAYS

The Fed­eral Avi­a­tion Admin­is­tra­tion has a prob­lem with the Williams County Air­port, and it’s just the right kind of prob­lem to have.

Air Traf­fic at the Williams County Air­port has more than dou­bled over the last 18 months. Due to the increased usage, the Bryan Times reports that the FAA wants the airport’s run­way re-surfaced. The board had planned to do that in three years, but the FAA wants it done in one year. The esti­mated cost of the resur­fac­ing is $1.3 mil­lion.

Most of the traf­fic sup­ports local busi­ness, in par­tic­u­lar, Titan Tire in Bryan, but the air­port also pro­vides nec­es­sary sup­port for indus­tries in Pio­neer, Mont­pe­lier and Arch­bold.

To sup­port the accel­er­ated build­ing sched­ule, the FAA will pay 90 per­cent if the County pays 10 per­cent. The FAA’s por­tion of the cost will be an esti­mated $1.17 million.
