WILLIAMS COUNTY TO PAVE RUNWAYS

The Federal Aviation Administration has a problem with the Williams County Airport, and it’s just the right kind of problem to have.

Air Traffic at the Williams County Airport has more than doubled over the last 18 months. Due to the increased usage, the Bryan Times reports that the FAA wants the airport’s runway re-surfaced. The board had planned to do that in three years, but the FAA wants it done in one year. The estimated cost of the resurfacing is $1.3 million.

Most of the traffic supports local business, in particular, Titan Tire in Bryan, but the airport also provides necessary support for industries in Pioneer, Montpelier and Archbold.

To support the accelerated building schedule, the FAA will pay 90 percent if the County pays 10 percent. The FAA’s portion of the cost will be an estimated $1.17 million.
