Alan Schad, 66

Alan W. Schad, 66 years, of Bryan, passed away Friday, January 3, 2014 at Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers, Bryan.  Alan was born March 1, 1947 in Bryan, Ohio the son of the late Gerald J. and Eva K. (Sprow) Schad.  He was a 1966 graduate of Bryan High School.  Alan was an Army veteran, serving in Germany during the Viet Nam Era.  He married Carol A. Sindel on May 8, 1971 in Edgerton, Ohio.  Alan was a welder and pipefitter, working out of Local 190 in Ann Arbor, Michigan and also Local 577 out of Portsmouth, Ohio.  He retired in 2000 after 30 years of service.  He was a member of the Bryan VFW Post 2489 and a life member of the Bryan Eagles Aerie 2233.  In his younger years, Alan enjoyed hunting and fishing.  Recently he enjoyed going to Bryan High School Athletic events.  He was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan and also followed the Cleveland Indians and the Cleveland Browns.

Surviving is his wife, Carol A. of Bryan; two sons, Randy A. Schad and Steven A. Schad, both of Bryan; two grandchildren, Elizabeth R. Schad and Zachary A. Schad.  He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Kelli L. Schad, and one brother, Gerald L. “Jerry” Schad.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 206 North Lynn Street, Bryan where funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 8, 2014 with Rev. Kurt Letcher officiating.  Interment will be made in Shiffler Cemetery, Bryan.  Friends will also be received one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to the charity of the donor’s choice.
