An area man was killed Saturday evening in one car accident after police pursuit

An area man was killed Saturday evening after rolling his vehicle while attempting to flee law enforcement south of Defiance. Killed was 34 year old Steven Caryer of Defiance. According to the Defiance post of the Ohio Highway Patrol, at 10:34 p.m., on Ohio 15 in Highland Township, a trooper attempted to stop Caryer for speeding and failure to yield. Caryer reportedly turned the lights off to his vehicle and fled the scene. He drove off the right side of Ohio 15, struck a ditch and overturned in a field. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash. Further investigation revealed that Monroe County, Pennsylvania had an active warrant for his arrest for OVI.
