An endowment has been created at Defiance College for a former educator

An endowment has been created at Defiance College for a former educator and speech coach there. Rev. Gary Reed of Defiance’s 1975 class, has endowed a lecture program (The Jan J. Younger Colloquium) honoring Dr. Jan Younger, a DC speech coach and professor from 1967-88. Reed was a former DC debate team member and later served on the college’s board of trustees. Younger’s studies centered on rhetoric, humor, history and the U.S. presidency. The endowment will pay speakers for the lectures. The first is scheduled for April 20 at Schomburg Auditorium with David Staley, an associate profess or history at Ohio State University and director of the Harvey Goldberg Center for Excellence in Teaching at OSU.
