Assault victim released from hospital

A Defiance man was released from the hospital following an early Sunday morning assault at a Defiance restaurant. The victim, 31-year-old Todd Wendell had been hospitalized for head trauma at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo. Police say they were called to Stefano’s Ristorante on Hopkins St., at 1 a.m. Sunday for a report of a male subject who had passed out. Cops found the unconscious man, and after talking with witnesses, determined that the man had been assaulted. Wendell was in critical condition earlier in the week, but again has been released. According to Defiance County Prosecutor Morris Murray, 31-year-old Roberto Martinez, of Defiance, is a suspect in the assault investigation.
