Betty Jean Lundy, 99

Betty Jean Lundy, age 99, of Port Hueneme, CA passed away following a short illness on September 20, 2022. Betty was born in Butler, IN May 3, 1923, daughter of Ralph and Wanda (Enterline) McClellan. She was married to John Lundy May 12, 1944 in Norfolk, VA. She will be greatly missed by her daughter Darlene (Ronald) Martin of Ojai, CA, and her son Orrin (Patricia) Lundy, Washougal, WA. Her five grandchildren, Scott Martin, Ojai, CA, Dawn (Eric) Oakley, Yuba City, CA, Darin (Julie) Martin, Auburn, CA, Kristen Springer, Hillsboro, OR and John Lundy, Austin, TX. She also has ten great grandchildren. Sarah and Emily Martin, Graham, Alec and Chad Oakley, Alex, (Lauren) Shea and Ian Martin, Dylan and Lola Springer. A sister-in-law, Marilyn Lundy, Edgerton, OH, and nieces and nephews.

Betty was a member of the Oxnard Seventh-day Adventist Church for over 40 years. She was was very active in all phases of the church. She was a Deaconess, Church Clerk, Greeter, and Pathfinder Leader, while supporting her husband John who was Head Elder for many years. She is currently a member of the Camarillo Seventh-day Adventist Church, Camarillo, CA where she has served as a Greeter..

She was a wonderful mother to her children and a good provider by working full time while also being a full time homemaker. She graduated high school in Butler, IN and then worked at the Edgerton State Bank with her sister Blanche Kepler. During this time she married her husband John who was serving in the Navy in Norfolk, VI. She then continued at the bank until he returned from overseas/sea duty. Together they lived wherever he was stationed, including San Diego, San Mateo, and Oxnard, CA. They returned to Edgerton for a brief few years, but again went back to Oxnard when John was recalled for service during the Korean Conflict. After a very brief return to Edgerton they decided to settle permanently in Oxnard CA. She worked for the Navy at the base in Port Hueneme and retired with 30 years of service. During part of this time and following she was the office manager of a Non-Profit organization “The Spoken Word” for over 30 years producing religious Sabbath School Helps for Teachers and albums for “The Kings Heralds Quartet”. The group won multiple “Angel Awards”.

She also enjoyed traveling. In addition to MANY trips on Route 66 and various other routes between California and Ohio with her family to visit relatives and friends, she and John visited many countries and had been in all 50 states, most of them many times. Together they have been to Germany, Scotland, Holland, Canada, Mexico, South America, many places in the Caribbean, and the Panama Canal. She once made the round trip between Oxnard to Edgerton with her pilot husband John in their private plane. She also went to Guam while John was in Africa.

Preceding her in death was her husband, John Lundy, her father, Ralph McClellan, her mother Wanda McClellan (Enterline) her sister, Blanche Kepler (McClellan) and her brother Russell McClellan.

Her funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday October 6, 2022 at the Krill Funeral Home at 114 E. Hull Street, Edgerton, Ohio 43517 with Pastor Roy Lawinsky officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 12 noon – 1:00 PM. Interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Edgerton.
